Andrea Laurel Merg, PhD
Andrea Laurel Merg, PhD, earned her doctorate at Fielding Graduate University, an APA-accredited graduate program in Santa Barbara, California. Her degree is in Clinical Psychology with a concentration in Social Justice and Diversity.
Before completing her doctorate, Dr. Merg worked with children, adolescents, and adults in inpatient, outpatient, and community settings. She completed undergraduate and master’s degree studies in Behavioral Science and Psychology from National University, Walden University, and Fielding Graduate University.
In 2020, Dr. Merg completed a doctoral internship in Philadelphia, through the APA-accredited Immaculata University Psychology Internship Program at the Joseph J. Peters Institute Safety and Responsibility Program. She focused on assessment and treatment of court-mandated individuals who had engaged in problematic sexual behavior and relational violence. She also conducted risk assessments for adolescents who had engaged in problematic sexual behavior.
Dr. Merg has specialized training in assessment, diagnosis, psychotherapy, and research in clinical psychology through the lens of cultural humility, social justice, and diversity. She is a Psychologist Resident at Forensic Evaluation & Consultation, in Portland, Oregon, under the license and supervision of Linda M. Grounds, PhD, where she conducts mental health evaluations of individuals accused of serious crimes. She promotes recovery, resilience, and community safety through clinical, actuarial, and research-based assessment and recommendations. Dr. Merg strives to demonstrate compassion and acknowledge the rights and dignity of all clients while conducting objective and thorough evaluations.
Clinically, Dr. Merg works from a Risk-Needs-Responsivity framework, relying on an integrative, relational and cognitive-behaviorally-based, trauma-informed approach. She works collaboratively with diverse clients and other professionals in multidisciplinary environments. Dr. Merg has a particular interest in the intersection of mental health and criminal justice.
Dr. Merg is presently working toward licensure in Oregon as a psychologist. She is a Psychologist Resident (#23292) under the licensure and supervision of Linda M. Grounds, PhD and Certified Sexual Offense Therapist Intern (IN-10209767) at Oregon Center for Change under the license and supervision of Jane Ward, PhD.
